Obtaining approval for a new Outbuilding to provide Gym and Spa
Project Description
This proposed outbuilding is part of a wider project at this residential dwelling. The clients previously obtained planning approval for works on their house including a kitchen extension; we were approached to design their Outbuilding and an external BBQ Kitchen area to complete the project.
The client requirements were for a space to carry out rehabilitative therapy, therefore we needed to be able to incorporate a Gym, Sauna and Jacuzzi within the proposed Outbuilding.
We worked alongside the clients, Project Manager, Interior Designer and Landscape Designer to put together the design for the Outbuilding and some minor amendments to the Kitchen extension to incorporate an external Kitchen and BBQ area.
As can be seen in the above plan, we utilised the existing topography of the garden in the proposed landscaping to maximise the space within the outbuilding. This is because the Outbuilding was to be compliant with Permitted Development; therefore we were governed by the guidelines in terms of it’s height. By utilising the existing changes in levels across the garden we could achieve 2.6m height internally whilst also adhering to the 2.5m external height limit.
These first images show a CGI of how the completed scheme may have looked, we had been exploring alterations to the approved extension to create a definite contrast between the new extension and the original property.
This CGI Visual shows the external Kitchen and BBQ area to the left hand side, connecting to the previously approved Kitchen Extension, and the proposed new outbuilding to the left hand side.
This CGI shows the Outbuilding in more detail, the corner bi-folding doors were designed to open out onto the patio area adjacent and create a flexible and social space.
The second set of images shows the scheme which was approved for the Outbuilding, utilising the topographical levels of the existing garden, as can be seen in the above Plan.
